COBB COUNTY, Ga. – A mother from Detroit is currently in the process of being extradited from Cobb County back to Michigan to face a murder charge for the death of her 9-year-old son. Brandee Pierce is accused of killing her son, Zemar King, who was found in a shallow grave at a Detroit home rented by the family. Prosecutors believe the child was murdered in October through smothering and neck compression.
Pierce’s troubled history came to light when she was previously charged with child cruelty in the metro Atlanta area after her 3-year-old son was found naked in a locked SUV with an air mattress and feces at Northeast Plaza. Brookhaven Police reported that the vehicle was not running, and the temperature was in the low 40s. Pierce, who claimed to be between homes and had recently moved from out of state, emerged from a plasma donation center.
Following the incident in Atlanta, Pierce was released on bond from the DeKalb County Jail but was later arrested at Cumberland Mall in Cobb County on charges of possession of a controlled substance and theft by deception. Authorities are coordinating with Detroit agencies to share information on the case.
