Arrest Made in Palm Bay After Man Allegedly Assaults Minor While Fishing

Palm Bay, Fla.—A resident was arrested on November 24 after a minor reported an aggressive encounter while fishing behind a home. The police took 46-year-old Wesley Woodson Boyd into custody, where he remains at the Brevard County Jail.

Authorities responded to the scene around 6 p.m. after receiving reports of a battery involving a juvenile. The victim, who was fishing at the time, stated that he was approached by a man matching Boyd’s description. The report indicates that Boyd confronted the boy, ordered him to leave, and physically engaged him.

According to the juvenile’s statement, when he attempted to walk away, Boyd allegedly grabbed him by the neck and struck his knee, causing the child to fall to the ground. Witnesses corroborated the account, indicating that they saw the confrontation unfold from the opposite side of the pond. Each witness described similar interactions: Boyd yelling at the boy and forcibly throwing him down.

The victim expressed a desire to press charges, prompting further investigation by the police. When officers interviewed Boyd, he admitted to engaging with the boy but denied any intent to harm him. Boyd claimed the boy had cast his line back into the water after being told to leave, and he insisted he merely snatched the fishing pole and tossed it away without meaning to cause the fall.

Officers determined that Boyd was the primary aggressor in the situation based on the evidence presented. He was subsequently charged with child abuse, a serious allegation that carries significant legal consequences.

This incident marks not the first time Boyd has faced serious allegations. Records dating back to 2007 indicate he has a prior history involving felony child abuse and battery. Although the felony charge was ultimately dropped, he received a withheld adjudication on the battery charges and was mandated to participate in parenting and substance abuse programs—a requirement he later failed to fulfill.

Boyd was booked into the Brevard County Jail later that evening. As of the latest information, he has not been released, and the investigation is ongoing, prompting police to continue gathering details surrounding the incident. The case raises concerns regarding safety and the legal ramifications of confrontations between adults and minors.
