Arrest Made in Murder of 3-Year-Old in Athens Mobile Home Park: Suspect Charged with Malice, Aggravated Assault

Athens, Georgia – A tragic incident in a mobile home park on Spring Valley Road resulted in the arrest of 17-year-old Julian Omar Cubillos for the alleged murder of 3-year-old Kyron Zarcos. Cubillos faces charges of malice murder, felony murder, four counts of aggravated assault, and violation of the Georgia Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act.

Two other suspects, 16-year-old Jayden Brown and 18-year-old Dakious Echols, are also wanted in connection with the crime and face similar charges. Responding to the scene at Hallmark Mobile Home Park, Athens-Clarke County Police discovered three individuals, including two children, had been shot. While the adult and one child sustained non-life-threatening injuries, tragically, the other child, Kyron Zarcos, succumbed to his injuries. The shooting took place just over a mile from Athens Ben-Epps Airport.

The mother of the victim, Shanita Smith, shared that her 3-year-old son was killed in the shooting while her 9-year-old son, who was also injured, is currently receiving treatment for his wounds. In response to the tragedy, an online fundraiser has been initiated to help support the family with funeral arrangements for the young victim.
