Arrest Made in Fatal Portland Shooting: Suspect Charged with Murder

Portland, Maine – A Portland man was taken into custody over the weekend for the alleged murder of another city resident, as reported by the police on Sunday.

Abdirahman Mahmoud, 36, has been charged with murder in connection to the shooting death of 30-year-old Raoul Mapendo Tshiyuka. The incident unfolded early Saturday when Portland police responded to an emergency call regarding an injured man at 263 St. John St. Tshiyuka was found at the scene and rushed to Maine Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries, as detailed in a press release by Portland interim Assistant Police Chief Robert Martin.

The Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that Tshiyuka’s cause of death was a gunshot wound, officially ruled as a homicide. Authorities pinpointed Mahmoud as a person of interest, leading South Portland officers to locate his vehicle at 77 Wainwright Circle East.

A collaborative effort between Portland police and the Southern Maine Regional SWAT team culminated in a search warrant being executed at 66 Wellesley Estates in Portland. Concurrently, Mahmoud reached out to authorities and disclosed his whereabouts at 224 Ocean Ave. Police promptly apprehended him without any resistance.

Presently, Mahmoud remains in custody at the Cumberland County Jail without the option of posting bail, according to Martin. Police have assured the public that there is no ongoing threat to safety in relation to this case.
