Arrest: Louisiana Mother Charged with First-Degree Murder After Tragic Shooting of 1-Year-Old Daughter

SULPHUR, La. — Authorities have arrested a woman following the tragic shooting death of her 1-year-old daughter on New Year’s night. Kristin Bass is facing charges of first-degree murder after her child, identified as Acelynn Moss, was shot at their home on Quelqueshue Street.

The Sulphur Police Department responded to reports of a shooting just before 8:30 p.m. Upon arriving, officers found the young girl had been fatally injured. The child’s father, Bradley Moss, confirmed Acelynn was the victim of the unfortunate incident.

Moss described the chaotic scene, revealing he heard a loud bang before rushing into a room to find Bass with a firearm. He recounted moments he heard his older daughter, who is 2 years old, calling for help. “I almost lost two babies,” Moss said, expressing profound grief and confusion over the events.

Witness accounts indicate that shortly after the shooting, Moss overheard Bass saying, “I just sent our baby to God,” as she attempted to retrieve Acelynn. This has left the family and the surrounding community in shock, struggling to comprehend the incident’s circumstances.

Following the shooting, the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services intervened, taking custody of the surviving child. Reports indicate that Bass’s bond has been set at an astonishing $10 million.

As the investigation continues, local authorities are urging anyone with additional information about the incident to contact the Sulphur Police Department. The case has raised concerns about the safety and welfare of children in domestic environments, with community members calling for greater awareness and prevention measures.

The tragic loss of Acelynn has echoed through Sulphur, with many expressing their condolences and support for the grieving family. Community leaders are now emphasizing the need for better resources for families in crisis, hoping to prevent such heartbreaking outcomes in the future.
