Akron, Ohio – A tragic incident unfolded in Kenmore on Thursday afternoon, resulting in the shooting and death of a 19-year-old man identified as Javeone Aamir Suggs by the Summit County Medical Examiner. The Akron Police have taken another man, who was injured in the shooting, into custody on charges of murder and aggravated robbery.
As detectives delved into the events leading up to the shooting in the 2100 block of 19th Street West, it became clear that the altercation stemmed from an attempted robbery during a marijuana transaction. Reportedly, a 30-year-old man was selling marijuana to Jovante Dowdell, 22, and Suggs when an armed confrontation ensued as Dowdell and Suggs attempted to rob the dealer. In the ensuing scuffle, the dealer fired shots, resulting in Dowdell sustaining a minor injury to his leg while Suggs tragically lost his life to a gunshot wound.
Despite being the one who fired the fatal shot, the 30-year-old seller has been labeled a victim in the case and is currently only facing charges related to drug trafficking. However, investigations are ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information on the incident to come forward and assist in the case.
