Accident at TSMC Facility in Arizona Leaves Worker Injured, No Explosion Reported

Phoenix, Arizona – Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) addressed recent rumors about an explosion at its facility in north Phoenix, clarifying that an accident involving a worker’s injury occurred instead. The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon after an abnormality in a waste sulfuric acid removal tank at the Arizona wafer plant.

According to TSMC, the accident resulted from a truck driver inspecting the tank being injured by a pop-up valve during the process. However, there was no explosion or fire on-site, and the incident did not disrupt factory operations or equipment.

The injured driver was taken to the hospital, and authorities are conducting an investigation into the accident. Despite the incident, TSMC assured that the plant’s operations and its expansion project remain unaffected.

TSMC’s first fab in Arizona recently commenced wafer production and is scheduled to begin using the 4nm technology in the first half of 2025. The company’s response came after local media outlet ABC15 Arizona reported a serious injury following alleged reports of an explosion at the TSMC chip plant.

While details are limited, ABC15 mentioned it was working to gather more information regarding the incident. TSMC emphasized that the incident has not derailed its production plans and commitments to further developing its presence in Arizona.
