20-Year-Old Man Found Dead After Fight With Teen Girlfriend

Investigators said no firearm had been recovered and no charges were announced.

HOUSTON, Texas — Harris County deputies are investigating the fatal shooting of a 20-year-old man after witnesses reported an argument, gunfire and a dark vehicle leaving a northeast Harris County apartment complex Thursday night.

The shooting was reported around 9 p.m. in the 14800 block of Woodland Hills Drive near Beltway 8. Deputies said the man was found with at least one gunshot wound and was pronounced dead by EMS crews at the scene.

Investigators said witnesses heard a man and woman arguing moments before shots were fired. A dark-colored vehicle was seen leaving the area shortly after the gunfire, deputies said. While investigators remained at the scene, a 17-year-old girl arrived in a dark vehicle and said she had been there when the shooting happened.

The Sheriff’s Office said the girl and the victim were in a dating relationship. Deputies said neither of them lived at the apartment complex. Authorities said the girl may have been involved, but no charges had been filed or announced Friday morning.

Detectives spent hours canvassing the area, speaking with witnesses and looking for surveillance video that could show what happened before and after the shooting. Deputies said they had not found a gun and had not determined how many shots were fired.

Investigators also said it was too early to say whether the case involved self-defense. The man’s identity had not been released, and the case remained active as homicide detectives continued reviewing evidence.

The next step is for investigators to complete interviews, process evidence and determine whether the case will be referred for possible charges.
