The person sought was last seen on a black bicycle near 16th and Rosedale streets, investigators said.
WASHINGTON — Police are searching for a juvenile male who was seen riding away from a Northeast Washington neighborhood after a 13-year-old boy was fatally shot inside a home Saturday night.
The Metropolitan Police Department said the person sought was last seen near 16th and Rosedale streets wearing a black shirt and black pants and riding a black bicycle. Police have not released his name or said whether detectives consider him a suspect or a person who may have information.
The shooting killed Ahmad Mims, 13, of Northeast Washington. Fifth District officers responded to the 1600 block of Rosedale Street NE at about 8:24 p.m. after receiving a report of a person down.
Officers found Mims on the sidewalk suffering from a gunshot wound. D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel determined that he had no signs of life and pronounced him dead at the scene.
Investigators determined that Mims had been shot inside a home in the block, police said. The department has not explained what happened inside the residence or disclosed how many people may have been present.
Several central questions remained unanswered Monday. Police had not announced a motive, identified the owner or occupants of the home, or said whether investigators recovered the gun used in the shooting.
No arrest had been announced. Police also had not disclosed any known relationship between Mims and the juvenile being sought. The limited description released by investigators did not include an estimated age, height or weight.
The Homicide Branch is investigating the case. Police are offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the killing.
Authorities said the search and homicide investigation remain active as detectives work to determine what happened inside the home and identify everyone involved.
