12-Year-Old Shot In Head In Logansport, Police Say

The boy was airlifted after police found him critically wounded early Tuesday.

LOGANSPORT, Ind. — Logansport police are investigating a shooting as a crime after a 12-year-old boy was critically wounded early Tuesday in the 1400 block of East Broadway.

Police said calls came in around 2:20 a.m. June 2 about a shooting involving a child. Officers went to East Broadway and found the boy had suffered a gunshot wound to the head.

The boy was first treated by emergency responders and then airlifted to a trauma center. Police described his injuries as life-threatening. His condition had not been updated in the first reports released after the shooting.

Investigators had not released information about possible suspects, arrests or the events that came before the gunfire. Police also had not said whether the shooting happened inside or outside a building on East Broadway.

The response included Logansport police, Cass County EMS, Logansport Fire and Parkview Medical. Their work focused first on emergency care for the child and then on preserving the scene for investigators.

The case remained under investigation as officials gathered evidence and reviewed what happened before officers arrived. No court filings or charges had been announced in the first hours after the shooting.
