Police allege surveillance video shows Tyree Reynolds firing toward the football field before another man returned fire.
BALTIMORE, Md. — Charging documents are providing a more detailed account of the gunfire that killed 12-year-old Khloe Ishway near a youth football game, as Baltimore police pursue a murder case against one man and continue searching for another suspected shooter.
Tyree Reynolds, 23, faces 30 counts, including murder and attempted murder, in connection with the Oct. 3 shooting near Leon Day Park in northwest Baltimore. Police arrested him Oct. 6. The charging documents describe surveillance video, Reynolds’ hospital treatment and ballistic evidence that investigators say connect him to gunfire directed toward the area where Ishway and other victims were struck.
Police said officers were sent to the 1200 block of North Franklintown Road at about 6:15 p.m. after receiving multiple reports of gunfire. Officers found a 25-year-old woman wounded and located Ishway, who was taken to a hospital and later pronounced dead. Two men, ages 28 and 23, later arrived at hospitals with gunshot wounds. A 35-year-old woman subsequently sought treatment for a graze wound.
Authorities later identified the wounded 23-year-old man as Reynolds. Charging documents allege surveillance footage showed him standing in a parking lot next to the football field with a backpack as two men walked past. Investigators wrote that words appeared to be exchanged before Reynolds reached into the backpack, removed what appeared to be a firearm and began shooting toward the men.
The documents allege one of the men returned fire, striking Reynolds in the ankle. Investigators said the direction of the gunfire differed: Reynolds was allegedly firing toward the football field and the area where the victims were located, while the other man was firing away from the field. Police have not announced the identity of that second suspected shooter.
Charging documents also describe physical evidence that investigators say supports their case. According to FOX45’s review of the records, investigators wrote that a projectile recovered during the medical examination of Ishway was consistent with cartridge casings found in the area where surveillance video allegedly showed Reynolds firing. That evidence forms part of the police allegations and has not yet been tested through a trial.
Investigators also traced Reynolds’ movements after the shooting. Police allege hospital surveillance video showed him arriving for treatment of an ankle wound while wearing clothing consistent with what was seen in footage from the park. CBS Baltimore reported that investigators said Reynolds later spoke with police but disputed parts of their account of his clothing and involvement.
The shooting occurred as families and children were gathered in connection with a youth football homecoming event. City officials have said the confrontation began with a dispute over a parking space. The violence prompted vigils and peace walks for Ishway, as her family and community members called for accountability while investigators worked to identify those involved.
Reynolds appeared in Baltimore City District Court on Oct. 7 by video and waived a formal bail review. He remained in custody. The murder, attempted murder, assault and related counts against him are accusations, and prosecutors will have to prove the charges in court.
Baltimore police say the case remains open and active because detectives are still seeking an additional suspect. Reynolds is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Nov. 4. Police have not announced charges against the second person they believe exchanged gunfire with him.
