Mount Pearl, Newfoundland – Following two violent attacks on Roosevelt Avenue in Mount Pearl last Friday, police have now arrested a seventh youth in connection to the incidents. The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary charged a male youth with two counts of aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, armed robbery, and uttering threats. These charges are related to the attacks that occurred on different parts of Roosevelt Avenue a week prior.
In addition to the recent arrest, four individuals from the group have been faced with more charges following a separate attack in the community on November 8. The RNC reported that the group was also involved in an attack at a restaurant on Commonwealth Avenue during the same evening as the initial incident. A man was assaulted and incurred minor injuries as a result of the altercation.
The youth involved in the November 8 attack range in ages from 13 to 15, with charges set for hearing in provincial court. Const. James Cadigan of the RNC mentioned how the information provided by the community has been essential in advancing their investigations and bringing closure to these cases. Mount Pearl Mayor Dave Aker commended the RNC for their efforts and expressed a desire to address the ongoing youth violence issues in the city.
To address residents’ concerns, the city is organizing a town hall event to discuss safety and potential solutions to combat youth violence. Mayor Aker emphasized the importance of the justice system’s role in addressing and preventing such incidents. The goal is to create a safer environment for everyone in the community and curtail future acts of violence.
