Police arrested Dasianne Richardson one week after 18-year-old Brielle Handy was fatally wounded on West Baltimore Street.
BALTIMORE — A 34-year-old woman has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the fatal stabbing of an 18-year-old woman in southwest Baltimore, police said.
Baltimore police identified the accused woman as Dasianne Richardson. Warrant Apprehension detectives arrested her Aug. 1, one week after Brielle Handy was stabbed in the 3200 block of West Baltimore Street. Richardson was taken to the Central Booking Intake Facility.
Police said Southwest District officers responded to the area at about 8 p.m. July 25 after receiving a report of a stabbing. Officers found Handy suffering from a stab wound as emergency personnel provided aid. She was taken to the University of Maryland R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, where she was pronounced dead.
Richardson faces charges that include first-degree murder, second-degree murder, assault and reckless endangerment, according to court records reviewed by The Baltimore Banner. The charges are allegations, and Richardson has not been convicted.
Court records allege Handy and Richardson became involved in a physical confrontation in an alley near the Love of God Apostolic Church. Witnesses told investigators that a woman fighting with Handy produced a knife, stabbed her and fled on foot, the records state.
Investigators later showed a photograph to witnesses, who identified Richardson as the person involved in the confrontation, according to the court documents. Police obtained an arrest warrant after homicide detectives identified her as a suspect.
Authorities have not publicly disclosed what may have led to the confrontation. Police also have not announced whether Handy and Richardson knew each other before the incident.
The case remains in the court system following Richardson’s arrest. Details about her next scheduled hearing and whether she has entered a plea were not available in the reports reviewed Wednesday.
