MEERUT, Uttar Pradesh – A tragic incident unfolded in Saharanpur district when Army jawan Naik Vikrant Gujjar, a crucial witness in his cousin’s 2021 murder case, was found fatally shot near his home just two days after testifying against the accused. The 25-year-old soldier had traveled from his post in Jammu to his village in Mudikhedi to provide his statement in court, a move that ultimately led to his untimely demise.
According to Saharanpur SSP Rohit Singh Sajwan, Vikrant was last seen with a group of individuals before his disappearance on Wednesday evening. The following morning, his lifeless body, riddled with bullet wounds to the head and chest, was discovered a mere 300 meters away from his residence. Authorities are currently conducting investigations and questioning individuals who were last seen with the victim.
The family of Vikrant informed the police that his cousin, Rajat Gujjar, had been brutally murdered in 2021 by a man named Devendra and his accomplices following a dispute. Despite Vikrant’s efforts to intervene and save his cousin, the perpetrators carried out the heinous act. The suspects had previously been arrested for the crime but were released on bail, subsequently issuing threats to Vikrant for testifying against them.
An FIR has been filed against Devendra, the primary suspect in both Rajat’s and Vikrant’s murder cases. The authorities have assured that he will be apprehended soon to face charges. Vikrant, who bravely stood up for justice, leaves behind his grieving family consisting of his parents, a younger brother, and two sisters.
