WICHITA, Kansas (AP) — A Wichita man has been sentenced to 18 years and three months in prison after pleading guilty to charges related to his son’s death from fentanyl poisoning.
Calvin Vick, 26, was found guilty of distribution of a controlled substance causing great bodily harm or death, aggravated endangering a child, and distribution of a controlled substance. The sentencing comes after his 22-month-old son, Israel Luna-Vick, was found unresponsive and later died from ingesting methamphetamine and fentanyl.
Investigations revealed that Vick’s sister, who lived with him and his two children, found Israel unresponsive on the floor of their apartment. She called 911, but no one answered. Vick later rushed Israel to the hospital, where he died within an hour of arrival.
Further evidence indicated that fentanyl tablets were found underneath Israel’s sleeping area in Vick’s apartment. The autopsy confirmed that Israel had ingested methamphetamine and fentanyl, leading to his tragic death.
