VAUDREUIL-DORION, Quebec – The Sûreté du Québec has provided an update on the violent armed attack that occurred in a condo building at 1600 rue Émile-Bouchard in Vaudreuil-Dorion. The incident, which took place just before noon on Thursday, February 15, mobilized numerous police officers and paramedics. At around 11:50 a.m., police officers from the Vaudreuil-Soulanges Est MRC were called to the scene of an armed stabbing attack on several victims. Three people were found with serious injuries, and two women were pronounced dead at the scene. A 70-year-old woman was taken to the hospital with serious injuries in critical condition. The suspect, a 44-year-old man, was arrested at the scene and taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
The violent attack occurred on the 6th floor of one of the buildings in the Vela housing complex. According to a neighbor of the victims, the suspect in the assault had been arrested last summer by Sûreté du Québec officers and was said to have significant mental health problems. Investigators from the Service des enquêtes sur les crimes contre la personne, accompanied by the Service d’identité judiciaire, were on site to analyze the scene, meet witnesses and gather as much information as possible about the circumstances surrounding the event.
Earlier on Thursday, CETAM confirmed that one of its adapted care teams was accompanying the woman as she was transported by ambulance. The suspect will be interviewed by investigators once he is released from the hospital. This incident has left the community in shock, and residents are calling for increased support for mental health services and prevention of such violent acts in the future. The Sûreté du Québec has assured the public that they are conducting a thorough investigation to bring justice to the victims and their families.
