Manuguru, India — Chaos erupted in Manuguru, a town in Telangana, when Congress party supporters assailed the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) office on Sunday. The violent confrontation appears connected to an ongoing property dispute, escalating tensions between the two political factions.
Footage circulating on social media depicted Congress workers vandalizing the BRS office by tearing down banners and tossing furniture outside before igniting the remnants. The altercation intensified as individuals were seen physically attacking BRS members, resulting in one person suffering visible injuries, including blood to the face.
The BRS party issued a statement condemning the assault, alleging that the Congress’s rise to power has led to increased lawlessness and aggressive behavior among their supporters. They claimed that Congress members attacked BRS workers using sticks and caused significant injuries to six individuals during the violence.
In a response filled with indignation, K.T. Rama Rao, the BRS Working President, communicated his outrage to the district party chief, Rega Kantharao, promising solidarity with party workers in Manuguru. He reassured them that the BRS’s extensive membership remains united and encouraged the local party to remain resilient in the face of intimidation from their political rivals. Rao also announced plans to visit the town soon, aiming to bolster morale.
Additionally, the BRS has called for legal action against those responsible for the attack, demanding the immediate arrest of the Congress supporters involved. The incident underscores the deep-rooted enmities stemming from recent electoral outcomes, notably the Congress’s victory over the BRS in the 2023 state Assembly elections, which has exacerbated existing conflicts.
This violent episode has revived discussions over the ownership of the BRS office, which is under contention, with both parties asserting claims to the property. While the confrontation on Sunday was particularly aggressive, it reflects a broader atmosphere of unrest as political rivalries intensify in the state.
The tensions and incidents in Manuguru represent a growing trend in political polarization within Telangana, stirring fears about the potential for further unrest as parties gear up for future elections.
