DALLAS, TX – In a tragic turn of events near the Ron Kirk Pedestrian Bridge in West Dallas, two young men lost their lives, and two others are now in custody following a violent shootout. The incident, which occurred late Monday night, has left the local community on edge, with residents expressing concern over recurring violence in the area.
The deceased have been identified as 18-year-old Abdullah Al-Badri and 20-year-old Oswaldo Gutierrez. Another victim is currently hospitalized, though their condition remains undisclosed. Meanwhile, Dallas police have apprehended two teenagers in connection with the incident, adding to the community’s unease.
The picturesque Ron Kirk Pedestrian Bridge area is typically bustling with people enjoying the scenic views and fresh air. However, according to longtime residents, the atmosphere takes a darker turn at night. Vidal Arredondo, who has lived across the street his entire life, recounted hearing gunfire erupting in the nearby public parking lot. He quickly dialed 911 as chaos unfolded outside his home.
Authorities say the violence began around 11 p.m. during a gathering in the parking lot. A confrontation between two groups escalated into gunfire, leaving three individuals with gunshot wounds. Two more victims had already been transported to the hospital by the time police arrived. A bullet-riddled SUV was seen parked outside the emergency room, serving as a grim reminder of the night’s events.
One witness, whose car was caught in the crime scene, described the harrowing experience of being trapped in an active investigation for hours. “We were just on a night walk when we heard the shots,” he said. “We came back and were stuck in the scene for about eight hours.”
As the investigation continues, another vehicle riddled with bullets was towed from the scene to be processed for evidence. Residents like Juan Rodriguez, who lives nearby, voiced their fears for personal safety, noting that gunfire is a frequent occurrence in the area. “It gets out of control on weekends. There’s always gunshots, and we’re afraid a bullet might hit one of us,” Rodriguez said.
The two suspects arrested have been identified as 18-year-old Manuel Alvarez and 19-year-old Fernando Sanchez. Both are facing charges related to the shootout, but the investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to piece together the events that led to the violence.
