The Lafayette Renaissance Charter High School mourned the loss of one of its own, Alaya Christian, who was described as an outstanding scholar and leader. Remembered for her dedication to academics and involvement in various school activities, Christian’s presence at the school will be deeply missed.
Another victim, known as Bryson to family members, was also honored online by loved ones. Emotional posts circulating on social media paid tribute to the life of this individual, reflecting the deep impact of their loss on those who knew them.
The shooting unfolded during a zydeco concert on a Tuesday evening, causing chaos as gunfire rang out and concert attendees scrambled for safety. Witness accounts described a scene of panic and fear, with some seeking cover behind cars and a man seen protecting a baby in a stroller. The interruption of the event by gunshots abruptly ended the performance by Chris Ardoin and his band NuStep Zydeko.
Chris Ardoin, who was on stage with his son at the time of the shooting, recounted the terrifying experience in a video posted on social media. He described the moment he heard the shots and his instinct to shield his son from harm, as well as the rapid response of law enforcement to protect the band from harm.
Authorities have not yet released details about the suspected shooter or a potential motive for the attack.
