SARASOTA, Fla. — Authorities have uncovered new details surrounding a tragic shooting incident that resulted in the deaths of five individuals in Sarasota and two others in Fort Lauderdale. The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office has identified a suspect believed to be connected to these shootings.
The accused shooter, Russel Kot, was reportedly living with Larisa Blyudaya prior to their separation late last year. Despite their breakup, investigators stated that Kot’s cellphone records showed no significant interactions with Blyudaya or her family that might have indicated a motive leading up to the tragic events.
In the months before the shootings, Kot had been staying at the Blyudaya family residence on Fallcrest and also had responsibilities caring for their pets. Reports indicate that he had at least one encounter with the family’s housekeeper, Olga Greinert, during that time. Authorities are piecing together the timeline and circumstances surrounding these relationships as part of their investigation.
Following the alleged shooting of Greinert and Yaroslav Blyudoy, Larisa’s brother, Kot sent a disturbing message to his family suggesting suicidal thoughts. He remained at the residence until Larisa’s parents, Florita Stolyar and Anatoly Ioffe, returned home, only to encounter a fatal situation. Both parents were shot when they entered the house, after which Kot reportedly turned the gun on himself.
Each victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds, underscoring the brutality of the incident. Subsequent investigations revealed a cache of weaponry in Kot’s vehicle, including two handguns, numerous knives, and other incriminating items such as rope and tape. This was in addition to the firearms he possessed while entering the residence.
Detectives also retrieved more than 20 shell casings from within the home, further indicating the severity of the violent acts that transpired. The investigation remains active, with the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office and the Fort Lauderdale police committed to uncovering any additional information that may shed light on this tragic case.
