The attack at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints occurred just before 10:30 a.m. when a man allegedly drove his truck into the building, followed by an armed assault on the congregation.
Authorities identified the suspect as Thomas Jacob Sanford, 40, from Burton, Michigan. Witnesses reported chaos as about 150 worshippers attended the service, which was interrupted by gunfire. After opening fire with a rifle, Sanford reportedly used gasoline to ignite the church, resulting in extensive damage. Law enforcement intervened, fatally shooting Sanford at the scene.
