Tragedy: Former ‘Lion King’ Star Imani Smith, 25, Found Dead in Stabbing Incident

Edison, New Jersey – Imani Smith, a talented former child actor known for her role as Young Nala in Broadway’s “The Lion King,” was found dead on December 21. She was just 25 years old. The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office and local law enforcement confirmed her death in a news release.

Emergency responders received a 911 call around 9:18 a.m. reporting a stabbing incident. Upon arrival, they discovered Smith suffering from multiple stab wounds. She was promptly transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, where she was declared dead.

Following an investigation, police arrested 35-year-old Jordan D. Jackson-Small, who has been charged with first-degree murder. He also faces charges related to endangering a child’s welfare and unlawful possession of a weapon. Police indicated that Smith and Jackson-Small had prior knowledge of one another, suggesting a personal connection between the individuals.

Smith’s aunt started a crowdfunding campaign to assist the family during this difficult time, indicating that Jackson-Small was in a relationship with Smith. He is currently being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center.

Described by her relatives as a vibrant and talented individual, Smith’s aunt expressed her sorrow in a heartfelt statement, remarking, “Imani had her whole life ahead of her.” She noted Smith’s exceptional talent, calling her a “true triple-threat performer,” whose work brought joy to many.

From September 2011 to September 2012, Smith played the role of Young Nala in “The Lion King,” a role that showcased her artistic talents. Her mother, Monique Rance-Helper, has made significant contributions to the entertainment industry, working on projects such as the film “In the Heights” and the FX series “Pose.”

Smith leaves behind a young son, along with her parents and two siblings. The community mourns her loss, remembering a promising career that was tragically cut short.
