Dallas, Texas – Multiple tornadoes wreaked havoc in local counties on Saturday night, leaving a trail of death and destruction in the Dallas area. Collin, Denton, and Cooke counties were among those hit by the severe weather on the evening of May 26.
Reports indicate that at least seven people, including two children, lost their lives as a result of the tornadoes that swept through the region. Dozens more were injured in the wake of the destructive storms. The National Weather Service is scheduled to conduct surveys to assess the extent of the damage and determine the strength of the tornadoes that touched down in the affected areas.
By Sunday afternoon, over 41,000 customers remained without power, according to Oncor. Assessment and repair teams are actively working to restore power to those who were left in the dark following the storm. The hardest-hit area from the tornado outbreak appears to be Valley View in Cooke County, where Cooke County Sheriff Ray Sappington confirmed the tragic death toll.
Among the victims were a 2-year-old and a 5-year-old, whose bodies were discovered on Sunday morning. Cooke County Commissioner Jason Snuggs revealed that multiple individuals were also found in a pond. The devastation left in the tornadoes’ wake has brought the community together in mourning as they begin the process of recovery and rebuilding.
