Aurora, Ill. — Police have arrested a 17-year-old boy in connection with a brutal assault on a 70-year-old man during an attempted robbery late last month. The arrest was confirmed by the Aurora Police Department on Wednesday.

The teenager, who is a resident of Aurora, has been charged with two counts of aggravated battery, attempted robbery, and resisting arrest. He has been taken to the Kane County Juvenile Justice Center following the charges.

The victim called police at approximately 11:13 p.m. on August 28 after he was attacked on West Galena Boulevard. Authorities reported that the man suffered severe facial injuries, including significant swelling and a broken orbital bone, and was transported to Mercy Hospital for treatment.

Police Chief Matthew Thomas condemned the violent act, describing it as an unprovoked assault on a vulnerable member of the community. “It’s especially troubling when seniors are victimized, and we remain committed to protecting those who need it the most,” he stated. The chief appreciated his officers’ rapid response in identifying and apprehending the suspect, expressing relief that the victim’s injuries were not more severe.

According to the police report, the senior citizen was approached by a young male who demanded money. After the victim refused, the attacker struck him repeatedly in the face and head, continuing the assault even after the man fell to the ground.
