Columbia, Maryland – An 18-year-old man was taken into custody overnight in connection with a double shooting incident that occurred in Columbia, Maryland on Saturday night. The shooting resulted in the death of one teenager, while leaving another in critical condition.
Howard County police announced on Sunday that Emmetson Zeah, a resident of Columbia, has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and other related offenses. Authorities uncovered a gun and clothing worn during the shooting at the suspect’s residence.
The fatal shooting claimed the life of 16-year-old Michael Robertson, a sophomore football player at Wilde Lake High School in Columbia. Another victim, identified as a 15-year-old boy from Columbia, was shot and transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he remains in critical condition.
Police Chief Gregory Der stated that the shooting occurred near The Mall in Columbia in the 10300 block of Little Patuxent Parkway shortly before 6 p.m. The incident, deemed targeted by investigators, involved a single shooter. Detectives are currently interviewing witnesses and analyzing surveillance footage.
Zeah is currently held without bail at the Howard County Detention Center. Although online court records do not list an attorney for him at this time, a bail and bond review hearing is scheduled for Monday morning.
This tragic event marks the second homicide in Howard County this year. In a separate incident on January 14, 17-year-old Lance Carrington was fatally shot while sitting in a vehicle in Columbia. Three teenagers have been arrested in connection with that case, with authorities seeking a 16-year-old suspect believed to have fired the fatal shot before fleeing with the others.
As the investigation into the recent double shooting continues, updates may be provided to the public for further clarity on the situation.
