BROOKSVILLE, Florida – Tragedy struck in Hernando County, Florida when a 16-year-old girl, Abbriella Elliott, was brutally attacked and left for dead in a nature preserve shortly after celebrating her birthday. The body of Elliott was discovered by a hiker in the Cypress Lakes Preserve Trailhead on the morning of March 27.
Sheriff Al Nienhuis of Hernando County revealed that the victim was seen leaving her home around 1 a.m. on the day of the incident, presumably to meet the person who would ultimately take her life. The violent nature of the attack suggested a personal connection between the victim and her assailant.
After an investigation, 16-year-old Cameron Cubel was arrested on first-degree murder charges in connection with Elliott’s death. While authorities confirmed that the victim knew her alleged killer, details of their relationship were not disclosed.
