BOSTON — Federal prosecutors unveiled significant details Thursday night regarding the movements of Claudio Manuel Neves Valente, the suspect linked to the recent Brown University shooting and the homicide of an MIT professor. The timeline, laid out by U.S. Attorney Leah Foley for the District of Massachusetts, reveals a series of calculated actions leading up to the events.
Foley detailed that Valente booked a hotel room in Boston from November 26 to November 30. On December 1, he moved to rent a gray Nissan Sentra featuring Florida plates from a local rental agency. That same day, he reportedly drove near Brown University, setting the stage for the tragedy that unfolded on December 13.
The timeline indicates that the suspect was intermittently seen in the Brown University vicinity from December 1 to December 12, a span that underscored his focus on the location before the shooting incident. Following the attack, which resulted in multiple casualties, Valente returned to Massachusetts just days later. Authorities revealed that on December 15, he allegedly murdered MIT Professor Nuno Loureiro in Brookline.
In an effort to evade detection, Valente altered the plates on his rental car to an unregistered plate from Maine. Authorities later traced his movements to a storage facility in Salem, New Hampshire, where he was discovered deceased on Thursday. Valente was reportedly found dressed in the same clothing he wore immediately after the professor’s murder.
