OREM, Utah – Law enforcement authorities in Orem, Utah, successfully apprehended a 20-year-old man suspected of a fatal stabbing in Washington state. Jose Antonio Cedeno-Ponce was taken into custody by a joint operation involving the FBI Safe Streets Violent Crime Task Force, Utah County Major Crimes Task Force, and Orem Police Department.
According to the FBI’s Salt Lake City office, Cedeno-Ponce faces charges of second-degree murder in King County, Washington. The arrest stemmed from an incident on January 10 in Tukwila, Washington, where Cedeno-Ponce allegedly engaged in a fight with high schoolers, resulting in a fatal confrontation. After the incident, he fled the state, abandoning his vehicle in Idaho.
The collaborative effort of various task forces played a crucial role in Cedeno-Ponce’s arrest, highlighting the importance of law enforcement agencies working together to ensure community safety. Special Agent in Charge Mehtab Syed emphasized the significance of bringing Cedeno-Ponce to justice and ensuring he faces the serious charges against him.
Currently, Cedeno-Ponce is being held at Utah County Jail pending extradition to Washington. The successful apprehension of Cedeno-Ponce serves as a testament to the dedication and coordination of law enforcement agencies in solving violent crimes and ensuring accountability for perpetrators.
