EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. – A man suspected of robbing and shooting another man in East Providence late last month has been arrested by the East Providence police. Jose Hernandez, 20, of Pawtucket, was taken into custody early Wednesday morning.
The shooting occurred at the Hull Street playground on the afternoon of Dec. 26, and the victim was found a short time later at a gas station in Providence with a gunshot wound to the leg. Fortunately, the victim has since been released from the hospital.
Detectives identified Hernandez as the suspect shortly after the shooting, and court records show that he was arraigned on multiple charges including assault with intent to commit a felony, first-degree robbery, using a firearm while committing a crime of violence, among others. He was ordered to be held without bail and was also presented as a probation violator due to two past robbery arrests.
