St. Andrew, Jamaica — A 29-year-old man, sought by authorities in connection with the alleged violent murder of his former partner and the injury of her teenage daughter, surrendered to police on Monday. Ricardo “Crow” McCarty voluntarily turned himself in at the Lawrence Tavern Police Station, accompanied by a relative, and was subsequently transferred to the Constant Spring Police Station for detention.
Superintendent Randy Sweeney, head of the St. Andrew North Police Division, confirmed McCarty’s surrender and expressed gratitude for the cooperation from the community. He urged residents to play an active role in assisting law enforcement by reporting information regarding wanted individuals and illegal firearms.
McCarty was featured on the police’s Wanted Wednesday campaign last month and was wanted in connection with the fatal attack on Shoshana Shaw on October 21. The violent incident unfolded at Shaw’s home in Rose Hill, where she was allegedly attacked with a machete during an encounter that left her daughter injured.
Investigators revealed that McCarty had been evading capture since the tragic event, which left the community shocked. Shaw, who was attacked while attending to her children, ultimately succumbed to her injuries. Her daughter, who suffered serious wounds, has since been treated and released from the hospital.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that Shaw was ambushed outside her home by an assailant who lay in wait. She attempted to seek refuge inside while calling for help, but not before her daughter rushed to her aid and was also struck. Authorities later discovered Shaw’s body in a partially undressed state along a riverbed.
The St. Andrew North Police Division continues to investigate this murder, as well as other violent crimes in the area. Superintendent Sweeney has made appeals for the public’s assistance in identifying additional suspects.
Several other individuals have also been listed as wanted for various serious offenses, including murder. Notably, authorities are seeking Shevon Matthews, Kemar Samuda, Emar Grinham, Kenroy Willis, and Tevin Harris, urging anyone with information about their whereabouts to come forward.
