Surat, India — A brutal attack involving over 15 youths has sent shockwaves through the Mota Varachha area of Surat. The assault on a BBA student, Preet Pradipbhai Ghoghari, occurred against the backdrop of a prior altercation and has raised concerns about public safety in the community after videos of the incident circulated online.
About two weeks prior to the attack, Preet had a disagreement with a fellow student named Rahul Goswami. Following the dispute, Goswami reportedly harbored a grudge and threatened Preet several times over the phone. Under the pretense of resolving their differences, Preet was lured to a meeting spot at Platinum Point on the night of the assault.
As soon as Preet arrived, he was met by the mob that attacked him with sticks, cricket stumps, and iron rods. The violent confrontation took place in a public area, raising alarms among bystanders. Witnesses reported that Preet was brutally beaten until he collapsed, while his friends, who attempted to intervene, were also targeted.
The ferocity of the assault left Preet with significant injuries, particularly to his hands and abdomen. The presence of pedestrians and local residents witnessing the violence sparked chaos, with many recording the attack on their mobile devices, later sharing the footage online.
After the attackers fled, Goswami allegedly threatened Preet, warning that his life would be in danger if he were seen in public again. This chilling statement highlighted the ongoing threat facing the victim following the brutal incident.
In response to the public outcry, Preet filed a complaint at the Utran Police Station, detailing the names of eight individuals involved and noting the involvement of an unidentified group. The police quickly registered a case regarding riotous behavior and other related offenses, launching an investigation into the assault.
Within hours of the incident, Utran Police apprehended 11 suspects believed to be involved in the attack. Following their swift arrests, the police conducted a public reconstruction of the event at the scene to reinforce their commitment to upholding the law and deterring future acts of violence.
