London, United Kingdom – Omar Wilson, 31, was sentenced to 18 years in prison after being found guilty of murdering Mussie Imnetu. Imnetu, a 41-year-old man from Dubai, was visiting the UK when he was tragically found unconscious with a head injury in Queensway, London.
Wilson, a resident of Napier Road in Leytonstone, claimed self-defense but was convicted of murder by a jury majority. Despite Wilson’s attempt to evade police, leaving the scene and heading to a nightclub an hour and a half later, he left behind crucial evidence – his sunglasses and keys.
Law enforcement officers were able to link Wilson to the crime scene through DNA found on the sunglasses and the keys that matched his house and car. Further investigation revealed Wilson’s phone location, placing him at the scene of the murder at the time of the incident.
Detectives pieced together CCTV footage that captured the attack on Imnetu and Wilson’s subsequent journey to the nightclub. Additionally, messages sent by Wilson to friends following the incident, expressing remorse and acknowledging his actions, were presented to the jury during the trial.
Wilson was apprehended, charged, and subsequently sentenced for his crime. Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie expressed condolences to Imnetu’s family and friends, describing him as a loving husband, father, son, and respected chef who was in London briefly for work-related training.
