JACKSON, Miss. — A man died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound after a weekend confrontation with law enforcement that unfolded on Crestview Street.
Officers from the Capitol Police Department responded to reports of gunfire at a residence on Saturday. Upon their arrival, they found an individual lying in the street with what appeared to be a gunshot wound.
While attending to the victim, officers were suddenly met with gunfire from another individual, recognized as the shooter. In response, an officer returned fire, but the suspected shooter retreated into the home. Moments later, another person affected by the violence emerged from the residence, informing police that the shooter had taken his own life.
Subsequent investigations revealed the alleged shooter deceased inside the home with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The two other injured individuals were swiftly transported to a nearby hospital; their conditions have not been publicly disclosed. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the responding officers.
