Miami, Fla. — A stolen Ferrari was involved in a dramatic crash that drew comparisons to a scene from the video game “Grand Theft Auto.” The incident unfolded early Tuesday morning, when the luxury vehicle careened into a light pole, resulting in a significant explosion and disrupting power to the surrounding neighborhood.
The chase began after the 2024 Ferrari Purosangue was reported stolen. It had been picked up by a transport company but never reached its intended destination. The car, along with a 2025 Rolls Royce Cullinan, was owned by a Miami Beach resident who became concerned when she tracked the vehicles’ locations and alerted law enforcement.
Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with onlookers capturing the high-speed pursuit on their phones. “It was just like something out of a movie,” one neighbor remarked, witnessing the car evading police through the streets.
When officers located the Ferrari, the driver initially attempted to escape. He made illegal turns and traveled against traffic before colliding with a police vehicle and ultimately crashing into a light pole. The impact caused an explosion loud enough to be heard blocks away.
The driver, identified as 28-year-old Deshawn Prendergast from the Bronx, New York, tried to flee the wreck but was apprehended shortly thereafter. Prendergast was taken to a local hospital for treatment of a minor cut, and thankfully, no other injuries were reported among the public or law enforcement. The Rolls Royce was recovered in the vicinity, further assisting police in piecing together the events of the chase.
