Southgate, Michigan – Two individuals have been hospitalized following a destructive explosion that rocked a quiet neighborhood in Southgate early in the morning. The incident, which occurred at a residence on Edison Street around 5:45 a.m., left a 37-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man injured and in need of medical attention.
According to Detective Sergeant Nathan Moscynski, both victims sustained burns during the explosion. The woman also suffered a fractured leg after being trapped under debris from the blast. Emergency responders managed to rescue the woman from the wreckage, while the man was ejected from the house due to the force of the explosion. The impact of the blast even caused a couch from the home to be propelled through a neighboring window.
The cause of the explosion remains unknown at this time, with fire crews actively investigating the scene. Residents have been advised to steer clear of the area as cleanup efforts are underway to remove the debris scattered by the explosion.
Neighbors in the area, like Ricardo, expressed shock and concern over the incident. “When I woke up, I heard the boom,” Ricardo shared. “I panicked because I do care for that lady…it’s my neighbor, I do care for them.” The close-knit community has come together in light of the tragedy, showing support for those affected by the explosion.
