Wicomico County, Maryland — A second fatal shooting in Wicomico County on November 2 has left one woman dead and a man injured, prompting an ongoing investigation by Maryland State Police and the local authorities. This incident is reportedly linked to an earlier officer-involved shooting on Jefferson Street in Salisbury that same evening.
Emergency responders were dispatched to North Westover Drive around 5 p.m. after reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, authorities discovered a 44-year-old woman, identified as D’Hikiyah Sanika Jones, and a 23-year-old man, Ferguson Milford, who both sustained gunshot wounds. Jones was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at a nearby hospital, while Milford continues to receive treatment for his injuries. Police believe the two may have a familial relationship, as they are thought to be mother and son.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear, with investigators stating that a motive has not yet been established. Later that evening, police began searching for a suspect believed to be connected to the shooting. This led them to Jefferson Street, where an officer-involved shooting took place around 7 p.m. A male suspect was killed during this incident, but no officers were reported injured.
Witness Teresa Kaatz was near the scene during the Jefferson Street shooting and described the ordeal as frightening. Kaatz recounted her experience, explaining how she had just arrived home from visiting her daughter when chaos unfolded. “I could hear yelling, and there was a man in front of my truck,” she said. “The police were directing him to put his hands up.”
As the situation escalated, Kaatz was directed to move away from her vehicle. Unfortunately, the police intervention led to gunfire just as she and the officers were attempting to retreat. “We started running because shots were fired,” she added, noting that her pickup truck was struck multiple times.
Her home also sustained damage, and Kaatz expressed relief that her dogs were unharmed, despite the numerous bullets that pierced the side of her house. “I was terrified that my dogs had gotten shot,” she said, her emotion evident as she surveyed the scene.
The Maryland Office of the Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division is reviewing the details of the officer-involved shooting. Meanwhile, the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit continues to investigate the earlier shooting on North Westover Drive, seeking answers and clarity in this troubling sequence of events that have shaken the local community.
