Hartford, Conn. — A shooting in the South End of Hartford early Sunday morning left two people dead, prompting an ongoing investigation by local police. Authorities have not disclosed any suspects or a motive for the violence, which occurred at approximately 5:30 a.m.

Police officers arrived at 270 Franklin Ave. to find a woman with multiple gunshot wounds and a deceased man in a rear stairwell. The woman was transported to Hartford Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

The victims were identified as 33-year-old Cynthia Jiminez-Pacheco and 32-year-old Joel Martinez, both residents of Hartford. Investigators confirmed that the two were in a domestic relationship at the time of the incident but have not released further details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Residents in the area reported hearing gunfire and waking up to a large police presence. Teddy Middleton, a nearby resident, said he witnessed 14 police vehicles in the vicinity while he was alerted by sirens.

Jen Scott-Miller, CEO of a local organization just feet away from the crime scene, stated that her security cameras recorded significant activity throughout the night leading up to the shooting. “I saw the lights flashing and going by,” she noted, adding her shock at the violent turn of events.

In the wake of the tragedy, Scott-Miller encouraged those affected by the incident to seek support, offering help to connect community members with resources for recovery. “Please reach out to us; we are here to help,” she said.

Police are urging anyone with information to come forward as they work to piece together the investigation. Meanwhile, the Hartford Police Major Crimes Division is leading the inquiry, with the Crime Scene Division also involved in collecting evidence from the scene.

As the community grapples with the loss and seeks answers, tensions remain high, and officials are emphasizing precautions as they continue their investigation.
