Durham, N.C. — A shooting that took place Friday evening near the McDougald Terrace community has left a juvenile dead and a man injured, prompting an ongoing investigation by local police.
Authorities responded to reports of gunfire in the 1200 block of Dayton Street shortly after 8:30 p.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered both a juvenile and an adult victim suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite efforts to provide medical aid, the juvenile was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. The adult was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Witnesses described hearing a series of gunshots and observed emergency responders attending to the victims on the ground. Jontae Dunston, a local resident, expressed his concern about the violence in the area, stating that it involved outsiders rather than local residents. “It’s alarming to think about children playing outside while this chaos unfolds,” Dunston remarked. “When will it end?”
Police have indicated that the incident appears to be an isolated case and do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the community. However, the shooting has raised alarm among residents, who are increasingly worried about safety in their neighborhood.
