Shooting at Lincoln University Homecoming: One Dead, Six Injured Amid Ongoing Investigation into Multiple Shooters

CHESTER COUNTY, Pa. — A festive Homecoming event at Lincoln University turned catastrophic Saturday night when gunfire erupted, resulting in one death and multiple injuries, as local authorities continue to investigate the incident.

The shooting occurred around 9:30 p.m. during a gathering at the International Cultural Center, where students, alumni, and guests had gathered to celebrate. In the aftermath, the university implemented a brief lockdown as law enforcement secured the area to ensure safety.

Chester County District Attorney Chris de Barrena-Sarobe confirmed that the deceased has been identified as 20-year-old Jujuan Jeffers. Six others who sustained injuries are expected to recover. One individual, Zecqueous Morgan-Thompson, has been taken into custody and charged with carrying a concealed firearm without a license. He is currently detained at Chester County Prison, with bail set at $25,000.

Investigators believe more than one shooter may have been involved in the incident. During a press briefing, de Barrena-Sarobe clarified that initial findings suggest the violence was not premeditated. “We’re operating under the belief that the shooter, or shooters, did not come here with the specific design to cause a mass casualty event,” he said. The search for evidence continued, with officials reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses throughout the night.

The community’s grief was palpable as local leaders voiced their condolences. Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro expressed his sadness and offered support to the university administration. He emphasized the tragic shift from celebration to mourning, expressing sorrow for the affected families. “This weekend at Lincoln University should have been spent celebrating the legacy of our nation’s first degree-granting HBCU,” he stated on social media.

Lincoln University Police Chief Marc Partee described the event as devastating, calling it an attack that marred what was supposed to be a joyful reunion for many. The university’s administration announced that counseling services would be provided for students and staff in need of emotional support during this difficult time.

The FBI and local police continue to assist in the ongoing investigation. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward. The university plans to hold a community gathering for reflection and healing on Monday at noon, inviting the campus to come together amidst the tragedy.

As the investigation progresses, the Lincoln University community is left grappling with the shock and loss, aiming to find ways to heal from a night that was meant to celebrate their heritage and connection.
