Reward: $5,000 offered by Toronto Crime Stoppers for Information on Fatal Shooting in Etobicoke

Toronto, Ontario – Toronto police are offering a $5,000 reward for any information that could lead to the arrest in the case of a man who was shot and left in a car in Etobicoke five years ago. Amir Naraine, a 21-year-old from Toronto, was tragically found dead in the back seat of a car at a plaza on Kipling Avenue near Steeles Avenue W. on September 29, 2019, after having been in the car for approximately 19 hours before being discovered by emergency responders. Law enforcement authorities believe that he was shot elsewhere and then left in the parking lot.

During a news conference, Devika Naraine, Amir’s mother, tearfully called on his friends to come forward with any information they may have. The reward, provided by Toronto Crime Stoppers, will be available until November 1. Devika shared, “Amir was a remarkable, hardworking young man. He was a great son, brother, cousin, nephew, grandson, and friend. Amir was taken from us way too early.”

Surveillance footage released by the police shows two men exiting a vehicle and leaving Amir Naraine wounded. Devika Naraine pleaded with her son’s friends to speak up, emphasizing the importance of finding justice for Amir and putting him to rest peacefully. She expressed disgust at the way her son was left to die and pointed out that only his friends know his last words.

Detective-Sergeant Aaron Akeson of the police’s homicide and missing persons unit urged the public to provide any information they may have, as authorities are still unsure of where Amir was shot and who the shooter was. Akeson emphasized that even the smallest detail could make a significant difference in the case.

On the night of September 28, 2019, Naraine visited his girlfriend in Brampton before picking up a friend in Toronto’s Mount Olive neighborhood. The group of four went to a party in Brampton where an altercation occurred, resulting in Naraine and his friend being shot. After the shooting, Naraine and his friend got into a car with two unidentified men, one of whom drove the vehicle. Naraine’s friend survived after receiving medical treatment at the hospital but has not provided a statement to the police.

The vehicle was parked at a plaza on Kipling Avenue, where Naraine was later found with gunshot wounds. The two men who left the car were captured on video heading northbound on Kipling Avenue. Descriptions of the unidentified men were provided by the police, including details about their clothing and appearance. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to help identify these individuals and bring justice for Amir Naraine.
