KILGORE, Idaho — Tragedy struck a small town in Kilgore, Idaho, as a gas explosion at a residence claimed the lives of two individuals. The incident, reportedly triggered by snow causing a propane line to break, resulted in the deaths of an elderly couple, aged 80.
Sheriff Mark McClure of Clark County disclosed that the couple had arrived at their home on Kilgore Lane around midday on Tuesday. Shortly after, at 12:56 p.m., they detected a gas leak and promptly notified the propane company about the issue.
According to McClure, a utility worker in the vicinity reported an explosion at 1:06 p.m. Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene, with the man being found outside the home after being blown out through a front window during the explosion.
The investigation revealed that the snowfall had dislodged the propane line leading into the house, causing the leak that ultimately led to the fatal explosion. Despite efforts by responders to save the victims, the severity of the fire prevented access to the interior of the home.
Overnight, authorities maintained a watchful presence at the scene before conducting a detailed examination, which involved assistance from the ATF fire investigator and the State Fire Marshal. The remains of the second victim were recovered by early afternoon the following day.
Clark County Coroner Brenda Laird anticipates hearing back from the next of kin before releasing the names of the deceased individuals. The local community mourns the loss of the elderly couple in this devastating event.
