Murderer on the Loose: Grandson Allegedly Kills Grandmother, Assaults Deputy at Vanceboro Bojangles

CRAVEN COUNTY, N.C. — A man is currently evading law enforcement after being accused of murdering his grandmother and attacking a deputy in a public restroom. Patricia Lopedote, 72, was discovered deceased at her residence along Highway Havelock on October 25, prompting an investigation by the Craven County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities quickly identified her grandson, 24-year-old Dominic Liam Connelly, as a person of interest. As the investigation progressed, officials released images of Connelly and his grandmother’s vehicle, which was reported missing from her home.

On October 28, investigators located Lopedote’s vehicle, but Connelly remained at large. The following day, law enforcement received tips suggesting Connelly was at a Bojangles restaurant in Vanceboro. Upon arrival, deputies encountered him in the restroom, where he allegedly launched a knife attack against a deputy before fleeing the scene.

Connelly is now wanted on several charges, including murder. Witnesses reported seeing him last wearing dark clothing as he ran toward Bailey Lane apartments, situated behind the restaurant. Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant. If spotted, individuals are advised not to approach him and to immediately contact law enforcement by calling 911.

In light of the ongoing situation, the Craven County School District declared that Vanceboro Farm Life Elementary, West Craven Middle, and West Craven High School would be closed, citing an “emergency situation” in the local community. District officials have not elaborated on the nature of the emergency.

Anyone with information regarding Connelly’s whereabouts is encouraged to reach out to the Craven County Sheriff’s Office at (252) 636-6620 or Craven County Communications at (252) 633-2357. The search for Connelly continues as law enforcement works diligently to resolve this case.
