SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — A jury has convicted a 23-year-old man of murdering his 18-year-old girlfriend and her unborn child following a dispute over her pregnancy. Donovan Faison faces serious legal ramifications, including the possibility of a death sentence.
The case centers on the fatal shooting of Kaylin Fiengo on November 11, 2022. Prosecutors revealed that Fiengo informed Faison of her pregnancy by sending images of positive tests, which he initially dismissed. His subsequent texts indicated distress and anger, particularly over his concerns about infidelity as he was living with another woman at the time.
In a chilling exchange, Faison reportedly texted, “Abortion!!!” after learning about the pregnancy and expressed violent intentions. Shortly after, he lured Fiengo to Coastline Park under false pretenses, where he shot her in the head before abandoning her and their unborn child in the car.
Investigators discovered critical evidence at the crime scene, including a bullet casing and an ultrasound image that underscored the tragic circumstances surrounding the case. This evidence played a significant role in Faison’s arrest, which occurred ten months later as authorities pieced together the timeline and motives for the crime.
Jurors deliberated extensively before making their recommendation on sentencing, with an 11-1 vote leaning toward the death penalty. During the trial, prosecutor Stewart Stone characterized the murder as “cold, calculated, premeditated,” and described the act as execution-style, raising alarm about its brutality.
The forthcoming sentencing hearing on December 5 will determine Faison’s fate. This case has raised questions about domestic violence, the pressures surrounding unplanned pregnancies, and the implications of such tragic outcomes for families and communities. As more details emerge, advocates are emphasizing the importance of addressing these social issues to prevent further violence.
