Murder Escape: Fort Worth Man Accused of 2nd Killing While Out on Bond

Fort Worth, Texas – A man from Fort Worth is facing serious allegations after being accused of committing a second murder while out on bond. Jesus Rios, who previously took a plea deal for a murder he committed four years ago, is now at the center of a new criminal investigation involving the death of a witness to his previous crime.

According to court documents revealed by FOX 4, Rios managed to escape to Mexico while out on bond, leading police to suspect his involvement in a second murder during his time there. Upon attempting to re-enter the country with a fake ID, Rios was apprehended and brought back to North Texas, where he is now set to serve a 15-year sentence for the 2020 murder.

The case took a tragic turn when a key witness in the 2020 murder was found dead on the same day Rios was arrested. The victim, identified as Mayra Guerra, allegedly cooperated with the police and provided crucial evidence that contributed to Rios’ conviction.

Rios’ actions have left a lasting impact on the families of the victims. Angel Mendoza, the daughter of Fernando Mendoza Jr – the victim of the initial murder – expressed her deep sense of loss and betrayal by Rios. Similarly, Abby Guerra, Mayra’s daughter, emphasized that 15 years in prison cannot compensate for the devastation caused by the murders.

Despite the plea deal and Rios’ sentencing, questions linger about the rushed nature of the legal proceedings and the handling of crucial evidence. Both families believe that prosecutors should have waited for all evidence, including DNA tests, before finalizing the plea deal.

As the legal process unfolds, there is hope among the victims’ families that justice will be fully served. While Rios currently serves his sentence in Texas, there remains a possibility of extradition to Mexico to face charges related to Mayra’s death. For now, the families are left waiting for further developments in the case, seeking closure and accountability for the lives lost.
