Lynwood, California — A tragic case has emerged from Southern California where the parents and grandmother of an 8-year-old boy, whose body was found in a cooler, face serious charges including murder. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has confirmed that the victim, identified as Isaiah H., had been subjected to a prolonged period of abuse alleged to be at the hands of his immediate family.
Destiny Luckie Harrison, 25, Isaiah’s mother; Daniel Alberto Monzon, 25, his father; and 46-year-old Ana Carcamo Zarceno, his paternal grandmother, have each been charged with one felony count of murder, torture, and child abuse resulting in death. Prosecutors have noted aggravating factors, stating they willfully caused harm that led to the child’s demise. In addition, the father and grandmother were charged as accessories after the fact.
Isaiah reportedly succumbed to his injuries on October 24, and his body was discovered four days later, submerged in ice within a cooler at an apartment complex on Euclid Avenue. Authorities responded to a call around 8:30 p.m. on October 28, leading to the grim finding amidst a welfare check initiated by concerned parties.
Deputies were informed the child had died under suspicious circumstances, and following their investigation, the three family members were arrested at the scene. Each defendant’s bail has been set at $2 million, reflecting the serious nature of the charges they face. If found guilty, they could each be looking at 32 years to life in prison.
L.A. County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman expressed his outrage over the allegations against the boy’s family, stating that the horrific abuse is particularly devastating considering it came from those who were supposed to provide love and protection. Hochman emphasized that his office is fully committed to pursuing justice for Isaiah.
In addition to the tragedy surrounding Isaiah, three other children—aged 16, 13, and nine months—were found at the residence and are now in protective custody, placed there by the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services to ensure their safety.
This heartbreaking case has raised significant concern among child welfare advocates, highlighting the urgent need for vigilance in detecting signs of abuse. Authorities are asking anyone with further information regarding the case to come forward, urging the public to assist in ensuring that justice is achieved.
