MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Authorities have apprehended a suspect in connection with the tragic shooting death of a two-year-old during a drive-by incident earlier this year. The U.S. Marshals Service confirmed the arrest of Jalen Thomas, 19, who faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder.
The incident occurred on April 11 when Jamarion Love’ll Payne was reportedly playing outside in the Orange Mound area. According to law enforcement, gunfire erupted, striking the toddler. He was transported to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in critical condition but succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter.
Following an investigation, Thomas was identified as the alleged shooter and was taken into custody on Tuesday on South Lauderdale Street near Walker Avenue. The charges against him also include attempted first-degree murder, reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon, and using a firearm to commit a felony.
