SCOTT CITY, Mo. – A murder investigation is underway in Scott City after police discovered the body of an elderly female in a home. The Scott City Police Department, along with the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, are collaborating on the case.
According to Scott City Police Chief Christopher Griggs, the investigation was initiated as part of a narcotics inquiry. Donald Harris, a man connected to the case, purportedly confessed to authorities about his involvement in the death of the elderly female, claiming he had taken her life in response to an affront to his wife. Harris also allegedly disclosed taking pills from the victim.
Upon reaching the residence mentioned by Harris, officers located the deceased woman. Evidence at the scene indicated that she had suffered trauma to her head and facial area, with a bloodied wooden walking stick found nearby.
Donald Harris was promptly taken into custody and transported to the Scott County Jail. Records from the jail indicate that Harris was arrested on May 26 and is currently facing charges including Murder 1st Degree, Delivery of Possession of a Controlled Substance without Prescription, and Armed Criminal Action.
