BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — A man is facing murder charges following a deadly shooting incident late Friday evening in southwest Birmingham, which left a community in shock. Kevin Holloway, 48, was arrested in connection with the death of Bobby Richardson after an altercation escalated inside a home.
The West Precinct police responded to a report of gunfire around 11:30 p.m. in the 900 block of 14th Place S.W. Upon arrival, officers found Richardson suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of first responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities stated that a gathering was taking place in the residence when Holloway and Richardson engaged in a physical confrontation that ultimately led to the gunfire. Holloway remained at the location and was promptly taken into custody by police.
Following his arrest, Holloway was held at the Birmingham City Jail until a murder warrant was issued against him on Sunday. He is currently being detained at the Jefferson County Jail without the possibility of bond.
Richardson’s death marks the 85th homicide in Birmingham this year, contributing to a troubling count of 122 homicides across Jefferson County. The escalating violence raises concerns among residents and law enforcement about public safety in the area.
