ELBERTON, Ga. — A 15-year-old boy has been charged with murder following a fatal shooting that occurred at a McDonald’s restaurant, police reported. The teenager turned himself in to authorities on Wednesday afternoon, about a day after the incident that left a 17-year-old McDonald’s employee dead.
Elberton Police said the minor surrendered at approximately 1:50 p.m. and will face charges including murder related to the shooting, which took place Tuesday evening. Officers responded to a call around 10:19 p.m. and discovered the victim on the floor, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite efforts by officers to provide lifesaving assistance, the young employee was transported to Elbert Memorial Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the two teenagers had a prior acquaintance, with tensions reportedly arising from a disagreement involving a mutual friend. Authorities believe an argument escalated, resulting in the shooting inside the restaurant’s lobby. The suspect had left the scene before police arrived.
Due to the age of those involved, police have not released their names. Additionally, details about the firearm used in the incident, including whether it has been recovered, remain undisclosed.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is actively leading the homicide investigation, and formal charges are expected to be filed soon. Local law enforcement authorities are urging anyone with information about the case to come forward. The GBI Tip Line is available at 1-800-597-8477, and tips can also be directed to the Elberton Police Department.
As the community mourns the loss of the young employee, officials are grappling with the rising concerns over youth-related violence. Community leaders have stressed the need for increased awareness and support systems to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future.
