Multiple shots fired at delivery driver

MESQUITE, TX – Residents of a quiet Mesquite neighborhood were shaken late Sunday night when a series of gunshots rang out, followed by the sound of a blaring car horn. Witnesses quickly emerged from their homes to discover a food delivery driver had been shot multiple times.

The unsettling incident unfolded on Birch Bend, where neighbors reported hearing six to eight shots. As they looked on, they saw the wounded driver, who identified himself as a DoorDash employee, slumped against his vehicle, pleading for help. “I’ve been shot five times,” he reportedly cried out.

Robert McNair, a local resident, recounted the chaos and confusion that ensued. He described the desperate cries of the victim and the bewilderment of the household waiting for their food delivery, unaware of the violence that had occurred.

Mesquite Police have remained tight-lipped about the investigation, confirming only that the driver was shot early Sunday morning. The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived, leaving the neighborhood on edge and prompting a slew of unanswered questions.

Authorities have not disclosed whether the suspect lived nearby or if the shooting stemmed from an attempted robbery or a dispute. Detectives are actively piecing together the events that led to the shooting, as captured by nearby surveillance cameras.

The victim’s vehicle has been impounded as evidence, leaving a tangible reminder of the night’s violence on the quiet street. Neighbors, unsettled and seeking answers, have expressed their concern and sympathy for the injured driver.

Efforts to gather more information from the household expecting the delivery have been met with silence. A woman at the residence declined to comment, claiming ignorance of the night’s events.

Despite repeated inquiries, Mesquite Police have offered little additional information, only confirming that the driver is currently recovering. The community remains anxious for clarity and reassurance as the investigation continues.
